Channel 4

Although very different in tone, this Mitchell and Webb collaboration comes very close to the Mark and Jez dynamic from Peep Show, with Mitchell as the straight laced character with an over inflated sense of his own abilities and intelligence and Webb as the happy-go-lucky foster brother, full of unrealistic plans and a less than firm grip on the reality of the consequences of his actions.

The series follows the struggles of a family as they try to make the running of the John Barleycorn pub in Stroud, Gloucestershire profitable following the death of the head of the household. Webb’s Andrew arrives, complicating matters further and Mitchell’s Stephen is shown to have an increasing dependence on alcohol to function.

Series 2 of Back has faced some delays as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic but was confirmed to have finished recording in September 2020 by Robert Webb, a Channel 4 release is expected in early 2021.
