Every Mitchell And Webb Film And TV Project Ranked From Worst To Best

11. Jam & Jerusalem

At this point in our list we get into the genuinely critically acclaimed. Marketed as Clatterford outside of the UK, the sitcom, coincidentally also co-written by Jennifer Saunders of Absolutely Fabulous fame, would run for 3 series between 2006 and 2009, and was praised for its multi-dimensional characters and depth of storylines.

David Mitchell plays a big role in the series’ success, despite not appearing in every episode, cast as Dr. James Vine, a socially awkward GP taking over the local practice in the West Country town of Clatterford St. Mary, following the death of his doctor father. Mitchell’s performance is subtle, portraying increasing levels of emotional maturity as events unfold.

Despite good viewing figures and consistent quality, the BBC would discontinue the series against the wishes of its writers. Jam & Jerusalem did have an older audience, and may have been a victim of the organisation’s push to try and bring younger viewers on board.
