Every Movie Based On A Saturday Night Live Sketch - Ranked From Worst To Best

13. The Ladies Man

Quick, list everything you remember about The Ladies Man sketches: Afro, sexy lisp, constant references to genitalia...and...uh...did I say afro already? There wasn't a whole lot going on under the hood of those skits, which relied solely on Tim Meadows' suave 70s stud giving romantic advice to the callers of his radio show. So there was almost no reason to try turning this into a feature film. (Except that the skin-deep similar Austin Powers movies were raking in boatloads of cash.) Unlike most SNL movies, which ride their one-note as high and as long as they possibly can, The Ladies Man goes in the complete opposite direction, essentially stripping away everything that makes him The Ladies Man within the first ten minutes. The storyline has Meadow's Courvoisier-sipper getting hired at a Christian radio station (briefly) and consider settling down with a wife and kids (unfortunately, less briefly). This isn't just an unfunny movie. It's an unfunny movie that doesn't even stick to its promised conceit. That said, no one can ever really be mad at Tim Meadows. That guy is supernaturally charming in or out of character.
