Every Philip Seymour Hoffman Movie Ranked Worst To Best
35. Jim The Bartender - The Invention Of Lying (2009)
Ricky Gervais has masterminded a wide range of TV shows and movies, and though The Invention of Lying struggles to really dig into the complexities of its premise, it still makes for a decent slice of escapist comedy and a solid attempt at creating a philosophical drama.
In a world where everyone is hilariously honest and lying doesn't exist, Philip Seymour Hoffman cameos as a downtrodden bartender and has a brilliantly funny chat with Gervais' Mark Bellson. The rest of the film is messy, fun and occasionally deep, though its execution could have done with some finetuning.
