Every Philip Seymour Hoffman Movie Ranked Worst To Best

33. Freddy Lounds - Red Dragon (2002)

Phillip Seymour Hoffman Doubt
Universal Pictures

Though it's easy to compare this disturbing prequel to its far superior predecessor The Silence of the Lambs, by its own merit Red Dragon is a surprisingly well-crafted addition to the Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) saga.

The film stars Ed Norton as FBI agent Will Graham, who uses Lecter to hunt down a serial killer known as the Tooth Fairy (Ralph Fiennes). Along the way, Graham encounters Hoffman's sleazy tabloid journalist Freddy Lounds, who adds a level of dark humour and eccentricity to the film whenever he's on screen, and stands as the star of the show thanks to his horrific final moments.
