Every Philip Seymour Hoffman Movie Ranked Worst To Best

26. Joseph Turner White - State And Main (2000)

Phillip Seymour Hoffman Doubt
Buena Vista Pictures

State and Main is centred around a film production from hell, where everything from script delays and monetary arguments threaten to derail proceedings. Once more, Hoffman is relegated to bit player as the film's screenwriter, who is suffering from writers block and struggling under the pressures of the moviemaking machine.

As is typical of the actor, he brings a sense of likability and everyman charm to the role, and makes him standout amongst the more prominent performances of William H. Macy, Sarah Jessica Parker and Alec Baldwin.

It's far from an award-winner, but it's a joyous affair and makes for a great little Saturday night watch.
