24. Paul Zara - The Ides Of March (2011)

Phillip Seymour Hoffman Doubt
Columbia Pictures

In George Clooney's tense and underappreciated political drama, Philip Seymour Hoffman rounds out a startling ensemble cast as Presidential campaign manager Paul Zara, a hardworking force of nature constantly tripped up by the backstabbing and complexities of the political game.

The Ides of March benefits from the great lead performances of Clooney and Ryan Gosling, and despite being joined with fellow character actors Paul Giamatti, Jeffrey Wright and Marisa Tomei, Hoffman stands head and shoulders above them as an actor able to craft a compelling character out of an otherwise underwhelming bit part.
