Every Philip Seymour Hoffman Movie Ranked Worst To Best

15. Wilson Joel - Love Liza (2002)

Phillip Seymour Hoffman Doubt
Columbia Pictures

Hoffman's genius lies in getting deep inside the head of his characters, and few can claim to have been as intensely performed as Wilson Joel, a man who forms an addiction to gasoline fumes after his wife (Ann Morgan) commits suicide.

Of course, given Hoffman's own addiction demons and cause of death, Love Liza is by default an even harder film to tackle, but even without the real-life association the film is still one of the most emotionally charged of Hoffman's staggering back catalogue.
