Almost Famous has many great qualities, from its kickass soundtrack, breakout performance from Kate Hudson and numerous hilarious and moving sequences. But no matter what's happening on screen, none of it would be as complete or effective without Hoffman's turn as veteran rock journalist Lester Bangs.

Hoffman's iconic role is painfully brief, but Lester is so richly performed, philosophical and integral to the plot, every second we get is a perfect blessing. Hoffman - despite the limited screen time - has rarely been better.
