Every Philip Seymour Hoffman Movie Ranked Worst To Best
3. Lancaster Dodd - The Master (2012)
P. T. Anderson strikes yet again, this time casting Hoffman as the lead role in a film that has come to be seen as one of the actor's most popular projects. In it, he plays Lancaster Dodd, the mysterious, powerful leader of a movement known as "The Cause," who forms a strange, manipulative relationship with a troubled WWII vet (Joaquin Phoenix).
Both Hoffman and Phoenix work fantastically together, crafting two equally intricate character studies into one mesmerising film. Hoffman is loud, booming and fills a room with purpose and a threatening calm, and watching it you can't help but notice why he and Anderson had such a miraculous partnership.
