Every Philip Seymour Hoffman Movie Ranked Worst To Best

4. Phil - Magnolia (1999)

Phillip Seymour Hoffman Doubt
New Line Cinema

Like all P. T. Anderson joints, Magnolia is a film built on ambition and a should-be impossible ensemble cast. This time, Hoffman is joined by Julianne Moore, Tom Cruise, John C. Reilly and Melora Walters (amongst others), but still manages to stand out despite his limited screen time and the big named stars surrounding him.

In the film, Hoffman plays nurse Phil, who cares for Cruise's father and is forced to see all the emotion pour out of the estranged pairs final confrontation.

Throughout the film, Cruise undoubtedly steals the show, but things wouldn't have hit so hard had Hoffman not been there, holding down the fort and crying up a storm.
