Every Philip Seymour Hoffman Movie Ranked Worst To Best
1. Caden Cotard - Synecdoche, New York (2008)
Capote might have won him the Oscar, and The Master might be a fan favourite, but Philip Seymour Hoffman's best project has to be Charlie Kaufman's challenging and beautifully philosophical drama Synecdoche, New York.
In the film, Hoffman portrays theatre director Caden Cotard, a depressed, disillusioned and romantically tragic man whose life slips into surreal, dreamlike wonderment as he attempts to create his masterpiece.
Synecdoche, New York is by no means an accessible, easy to follow film (it requires more than one viewing), but between Hoffman's eccentric and perfectly balanced performance and Kaufman's daring direction, it's nothing short of a cinematic masterclass that every film fan has to see.
