Every Pixar Movie Ranked Worst To Best
18. Cars 3
After the first sequel misunderstood what made the original Cars more than just a vehicle for selling toys, Cars 3 seemed to understand it a hell of a lot more. Rather than it being a silly excuse for more Mater nonsense, the film returned to its Days Of Thunder influence and explored a darker story for Lightning McQueen.
This was a more mature reflection on redundancy and the existential dread of death - just as lots of the Pixar films were in the wake of Toy Story - and while it's more lightweight because of the demographic of its audience, there's a surprising smartness to the story.
Ultimately, it's still a little forgettable, but it was nice to see McQueen's story rescued from the scrap yard after the mostly awful second movie.
