Henry J. Waternoose III (James Coburn) is the CEO of Monsters, Inc., and while James Coburn's performance initially presents Waternoose as the fatherly boss we all wish we had, it later becomes clear he places the company's health above everything else.

It's eventually revealed that Waternoose is in league with Randall Boggs (Steve Buscemi) and plans to solve the company's dwindling energy profits by kidnapping children.

Doing a heinous act for the apparent greater good - that is, financial prosperity - is a classic villain trait, yet the specificity of his plan differentiates him from typical evil CEO-type bad guys.

Waternoose's brutal desperation to save his company also ultimately ends up being his undoing, when he's arrested and Sulley (John Goodman) creatively figures out that laughs are infinitely more profitable than screams.
