7. The Rise Of Darkrai
The opening salvo from the Diamond and Pearl era remains one of the series' stronger efforts, thanks in no small part to its choice to keep a particularly intimate focus beneath the bluster of its big Legendary Pokemon face-off.
Inspired in part by the locale of Barcelona, The Rise of Darkrai sees the titular Pokemon ostracised in the town of Alamos, only for him to emerge as the lone being - alongside Ash and company of course - who can prevent Dialga and Palkia from tearing reality apart. Despite that overblown premise, it feels like a particularly small affair - and as such, it feels more emotionally savvy to boot.
