If you watch any version of Kingdom of Heaven, make it the director's cut. The original cut of the epic historical drama was shortened and lambasted by Fox Studios and early test screenings, leading to Ridley Scott releasing his finished product a few months later and regaining some critical acclaim.

Kingdom of Heaven is a quintessential Scott movie. Not only is it one of his most visually exciting movies, full to bursting with heart-pounding action sequences and battle scenes, but it also goes a long way to show how good Scott is at purely epic filmmaking.

That being said, there are some issues that keep it from greatness, the most glaringly obvious of which is Orlando Bloom, who's woefully miscast in the lead role. Also, between the action and beauty, everything else feels like filler, from the contrived dialogue, poor character development and generic narrative beats.
