Every Ridley Scott Movie Ranked Worst To Best

23. G.I. Jane (1997)

Creating empowering female protagonists has always come easily to Ridley Scott, considering his success with the Ellen Ripley-led Alien franchise and the powerfully iconic Thelma & Louise. G.I. Jane attempted to keep up this trend, and though the film's protagonist Jordan O'Neil is far from a bad character, she's trapped inside an awful movie, being played by a woefully poor Demi Moore.

Considering its focus on politics and O'Neil's journey to become the first woman to go through Navy SEAL training, G.I. Jane plays things incredibly safe and struggles to dig into the lofty political themes it brings up.

Because of Moore's clunky lead turn and the film's underexplored themes, the film can't be saved by Scott's inspiring training montages and smooth direction, or Viggo Mortensen's sensitive and badass turn as a veteran soldier. It's a shame, because there's a really good film lurking in there somewhere.
