Every Roald Dahl Movie Adaptation Ranked Worst To Best
2. Fantastic Mr. Fox
Far from an entirely faithful adaptation of Dahl’s 1970
novel, hipster favourite Wes Anderson’s stop motion animated interpretation of
Fantastic Mr. Fox is nevertheless a quirky, fun foray into the author’s weird
and wonderful world, and despite a middling box office performance – at least
compared to other recent Anderson films like The Grand Budapest Hotel and
Moonrise Kingdom – it was a firm favourite with critics who lavished the film
with praise.
Featuring the unmistakeable dulcet tones of George Clooney as the eponymous Mr. Fox alongside a stellar cast of other famous voices including Meryl Streep, Bill Murray and Willem Dafoe, the film tells the tale of the rivalry between a motley crew of animal species and a trio of greedy, easily outwitted farmers and while Anderson embellishes upon Dahl’s original fable, introducing new plotlines and characters and switching the action to an Anglo-American setting, it still incorporates enough of the beloved writer’s trademark mingling of whimsy and dark humour to make it a more than worthy retelling of a Dahl classic.
