Every Rob Zombie Movie Ranked Worst To Best
3. The House Of 1000 Corpses (2003)
A horror extravaganza that also has a surprising amount of incredibly dark humour, House of 1000 Corpses was Rob Zombie's first film, and the first instalment in the Firefly Trilogy. Introducing the likes of Captain Spaulding, Otis and Baby, as well as the horrifying Mother Firefly (Karen Black) and towering murderer Tiny (Matthew McGrory), the film was made back in 2000, but thanks to its controversial violence, it wasn't released until 2003.
The plot focuses on a group of people who find themselves trapped, tortured and killed by the Firefly clan, their bodies added to their many victims in sickening, tension-fuelled fashion.
Taking inspiration from the 1970s-80s horrors of the same themes, House of 1000 Corpses is Zombie putting all he knows about the horror genre to task, creating a deeply atmospheric if messy horror that shocks and scares in equal measure. Like 31, it's far from a great movie, but when films are this unapologetically unfiltered and care-free, then there's very little left to complain about.
