Every Rob Zombie Movie Ranked Worst To Best
2. The Lords Of Salem (2012)
Without question Rob Zombie's most underrated movie, The Lords of Salem is far removed from the director's other films, but is all the better for it. Lessening the scares that characterised his earlier work, The Lords of Salem finds Zombie trying his hand at a more conventional supernatural horror, and the results are to die for.
The film follows Heidi (Sheri Moon Zombie, if you'll believe it), a DJ in Salem, Massachusetts who finds an old record by a band called The Lords and is overcome with terrifying, paralytic visions of witches, murder and sinister rituals.
The Lords of Salem is Zombie's most toned-down effort, but still delivers the scares like never before. The film is beautifully shot, creating some creepy, metaphorical imagery and ramping up the tension with every new angle. It's also lifted by Sheri Moon's best performance, a much more refrained and deeply complex character than Baby Firefly.
As previously noted, Rob Zombie always does films exactly the way he wants to, and The Lords of Salem is no exception to that rule, and remains one of the most involving and troubling films of his career.
