Every Saw Film Ranked From Worst To Best

2. Saw VI

Saw Bear Trap

Plot: The health-care executive (Peter Outerbridge) who denied John Kramer any coverage to treat his cancer is put through a horrifying game, while Mark Hoffman tries to evade capture.

Saw VI is one of the most pleasantly surprising horror sequels of all time.

After three disappointing movies in a row, the Saw franchise had become an unlikable annual Halloween tradition (from 2004-2010, there was one Saw film per year and it was always released on Halloween), so it's likely that most had given up hope for it. Then, all of sudden, Saw VI made the property good again.

A dark, suspenseful and at times surprisingly powerful horror thriller that is also a sobering piece of commentary on the American healthcare system, Saw VI makes for a ferociously intense viewing that has several brilliant trap set-pieces and a thoroughly effective ending.

It still follows the same old formula, but it does so correctly by presenting a group of corrupt, flawed characters facing a horrific form of karma in an unsettling, thought-provoking manner, and by prioritizing suspense instead of bloodshed.

Thanks to the usual terrible non-linear editing and some hit-or-miss acting, Saw VI isn't a great film but it is a good one, and it sure as hell looks incredible compared to most horror sequels.
