Every Saw Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

2. Saw II

Arriving less than a year after the original film, most surely expected that Saw II would be a rough, cynical cash-in on the original's success, so it's surprising just how well-assembled and straight-up entertaining it is.

Making the most of its house-of-horrors concept and significantly upping the scope from the original film, there's a propulsive urgency throughout Saw II which builds to a legitimately surprising climax, even if it of course pales in comparison to the first film's twist.

Long before the idea of an apprentice became old-hat or the traps began to feel overly familiar, Saw II was an impressively unique sequel that didn't just coast on the original's immense popularity. It delivered genuine surprises, inventive traps and lashings of gore to boot.
