Every Saw Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
1. Saw
And of course, was anything ever going to top the 2004 original? Made for just $1.2 million, the first Saw film remains the best, opting for a more thriller-focused tone closer to David Fincher's Se7en, rather than the increasingly gory sequels that followed.
Yes, the production quality is laughably low at times (remember the "car chase"?) and Cary Elwes' performance goes all sorts of ridiculous by film's end, but the suspense, the atmosphere and, yes, the ending, combine to make Saw an uncommonly satisfying horror.
It's a fascinating testament to the power of creativity over buckets of cash, though surely nobody could've envisioned the phenomenon Saw would become.
