Every Scream Movie Ranked Worst To Best

4. Scream 2 (1997)

Scream VI
Dimension

This may be a bold statement -- especially when given to a film that doesn't even crack the top three -- but Scream 2 features the most exciting set pieces in the entire franchise, and its overall tension has rarely been topped.

Taking place barely a year after the original Woodsboro massacre, the first sequel of the series finds its embattled survivors thrust into a fresh horror, as a new Ghostface surfaces in college and forces Sidney, Gale, Dewey, Randy and their new friends to confront the legacy of their town's recent pain.

Scream 2 is excellently driven by its endearing cast, especially Campbell and a still-missed Jaime Kennedy, but its true power comes from its kills, which Wes Craven crafts with more suspense than ever before (or since). Try watching Sidney crawl over an unconscious Ghostface without holding your breath. You can't.

It has some brief issues, including its obvious killer reveal and dull Cotton Weary drama, but Scream 2 is still tough to forget as a twisty spectacle of mass murder.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
