Every Scream Movie Ranked Worst To Best

3. Scream VI (2023)

The fifth Scream took risks, but they're nothing compared to what happened with Scream VI, which moved the story to New York and dialled up the darkness.

The first film made without the inclusion of Sidney Prescott, Scream VI follows Sam and Tara Carpenter to the Big Apple, where a fresh spate of kills forces them to confront their grief and trauma whilst unfolding a new mystery alongside Scream 4's fan favourite Kirby Reed and a suspicious new friend group.

Paying homage to every previous film in the franchise without beating us over the head with it, the film makes incredible use of its New York setting (the subway sequence in particular is expertly crafted) to create a bloody thriller that still feels intimate and makes Ghostface colder than ever.

Yes, the twist is obvious, but Scream VI works. Its chases are horrible, its deaths vicious, its supporting cast fully formed and its heart on its sleeve. The series has rarely felt so confident, right from its brutal cold open.
