Every Spider-Man Movie Ranked Worst To Best

Though there were comic book movies before Sam Raimi unleashed his Spider-Man to cinemas the first time, without 2002's Spider-Man (and also Bryan Singer's X-Men movies), we wouldn't still be living in the boom period for comic book movies that we are in the midst of.

What Raimi did with Spider-Man was simply incredible and Sony deserve a lot of credit for having the vision to hire a horror movie-maker for this key blockbuster. What he brought from his past with supernatural movies in particular helped craft one of the most memorable comic book villains ever in Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin. There's something very Jekyll and Hyde about that performance and the juxtaposition with Toney Maguire's wide-eyed Peter Parker is delightfully successful.

Ostensibly, the film is an exercise in blowing the cobwebs away from a genre that had been dragged through the mud by Joel Schumacher's Batman movies. And in the wake of 9/11, the sequel also perfectly nailed the spirit of New York, which you can still feel watching it today.
