Every Spike Lee Movie Ranked Worst To Best
12. School Daze (1988)
Despite only being his second feature film, School Daze finds Spike Lee already willing to try, say or do anything to get his point across.
At once effortlessly funny, gloriously messy and brilliantly performed by principal stars Laurence Fishburne and frequent collaborator Giancarlo Esposito, the comedy-drama tells the story of two college groups clashing over issues of colourism, class and feminism.
The film is utterly enrapturing, a Jackson Pollock painting of ideas that are all as powerful and absorbing as the last. Sure, it's far from his most refined work, but it's also Lee at full-force, saying a million things at once with both heart and humour, and having a blast in the process.
