Every Spike Lee Movie Ranked Worst To Best
17. Chi-Raq (2015)
Spike Lee has always been 100% himself. His best films are simultaneously messy and powerful, and Chi-Raq serves as a perfect example of what makes a Spike Lee Joint tick.
At once convoluted and brave, inconsistent and necessary, the drama follows the attempts of a group on the southside of Chicago to quell the area's on-going problem with gun violence.
It features too many subplots to be as enrapturing as it should be, and at just over two hours it's decidedly long for what it is, but between its important, real-world discussions and a monumental performance from a rarely-better John Cusack, Chi-Raq is an undisputable mess, but one with enough energy and endearing sequences to make it a decent addition to Lee's CV.
