1. Luke Vs. Darth Vader - The Empire Strikes Back

And finally, it's the lightsaber battle to end all lightsaber battles, the superbly staged, tripwire tense first showdown between Luke and Darth Vader in Cloud City.

From the lack of bombastic music (at least to begin with) to the awesome dialogue, incredible sets and the sheer drawn-out, operatic nature of the fight, it's a perfect demonstration of Vader's immense power, and how Luke just wasn't ready to take him on.

Plus, it concludes with Luke losing his arm and the famous "I am your father" reveal, which is about as iconic and Earth-shatteringly brilliant as the series has ever gotten, even with Mark Hamill's rather awful delivery.

Lightsabers or not, this is easily the best-directed and most memorable sequence from any of the Star Wars movies. Pure cinema magic.
