Every Star Wars Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
8. Revenge Of The Sith
Although lumped in with the much-maligned Prequel Trilogy, and containing some of the same issues, Revenge of the Sith is a major step up in quality, and the film where George Lucas really figures out what he's doing with this arc of movies (just a shame it came at the end).
This is the film where Anakin Skywalker turns into Darth Vader, which means the pacing of the story ramps up and the character work is interesting enough to cover the flaws in Hayden Christensen's performance. It does also make the Jedi look like idiots - a notion addressed by Luke in The Last Jedi - and has a few of the same writing issues as the previous movies ("NOOOOOOO!").
However, there's a lot in here that really works, including some excellent lightsaber battles - both Yoda and Mace Windu do battle with Darth Sidious - and the Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise, one of the saga's best subtle moments.
But of couse, what's really memorable about this is the climactic showdown between Anakin and Obi-Wan on Mustafar. It looks impressive, in terms of both setting and choreography, and is one of the most personal showdowns in the saga, which drips onto the screen with a lot of help from Ewan McGregor's great performance.
