Every Steven Soderbergh Movie Ranked Worst To Best

2. Traffic (2000)

Oceans Eleven
USA Films

Soderbergh and screenwriter Stephe Gaghan's view of the War on Drugs is the only film you ever have to see about the drug trade, those its effects and those trying to bring it down.

It's another ensemble piece from Soderbergh, though Benicio del Toro's Oscar-winning turn as a moral cop on the US-Mexico border is certainly the standout. There's also Catherine Zeta-Jones' turn as a drug lord's wife, Don Cheadle as a indifferent DEA agent, and Michael Douglas' conservative judge, forced to confront the drug trade's effects on his own family.

Traffic is a stylish, tragic, troubling and eye-opening account on the drug trade, and one that shows how great a director Soderbergh is when he slows down and lets his characters do the talking.

The fact that it lost Best Picture to Gladiator still absolutely baffles.
