Every Superhero Movie This Decade Ranked - Worst To Best
9. Guardians Of The Galaxy (2014)
Before Guardians of the Galaxy hit screens, there was a distinct air of scepticism about the movie, that it would be the project to prove that the MCU isn't beyond failure, with audiences likely finding it "too weird" to be commercially viable.
Oh, how wrong people were, and thank God.
James Gunn served up the most irreverent, bold and visually stunning MCU film up to that point with this energetic, snazzy and superbly-cast space opera, which bet hard on itself and was all the better for it.
Considering how easy it would've been for this to be a mess of conflicting tones, bad effects and wonky performances, it's incredible how confident and seamless the end product is, all the more so with Gunn having no prior blockbuster experience.
The plot may be total forgettable nonsense and the villain (Lee Pace's Ronan) sucks, but the personalities of the heroes are so persuasively entertaining that it doesn't really matter.
