Every Terrence Malick Movie Ranked Worst To Best
8. To The Wonder (2012)
Guided by his appreciation for ambiguity, heavy religious motifs and unconventional narrative structure, To The Wonder is another late-era Malick film which stumbles under the weight of its intentions, but still comes up strong thanks to its visual splendour and honest depiction of romance ending.
Starring Ben Affleck and Olga Kurylenko as a couple struggling to find solace in their relationship, the drama attempts to take audiences through the twisting ins-and-outs of a marriage doomed to fail, all the while alluding to a higher power showing its characters the way.
Much like Song To Song, there's a clear lack of explored character motivations which make To The Wonder's story feel more emotionally detached than it really needs to be, but its visual beauty and affecting conclusion manage to make it a confounding journey worth taking.
