Every Tim Burton Film Ranked From Worst To Best

8. Corpse Bride

Edward Scissorhands, like Tim Burton, just can't reach out and touch others
Warner Bros.

After the hit success of Nightmare Before Christmas, there was plenty of excitement at the prospect of another stop motion feature from Burton. Thankfully not only was this something that we were given, but it was a really wonderful film that felt wholesome yet frightening.

Corpse Bride follows the events of Victor's accidental marriage to a dead spirit after Emily - the titular bride -mistakenly takes his rehearsal of wedding vows as a proposal of marriage. He must now find a way out of this contract he accidentally created and get back to his actual wedding in the real world.

The simple narrative means that the contrast between the land of the living and world of the dead can be the primary focus. With some brilliant colouring and animation, the film achieves this macabre idea of how the afterlife feels far more alive and free than the strict and restrictive Victorian setting that the living inhabit.

The characters are wonderfully loveable, and it has some great songs to entertain you throughout its run. It may not have been as popular as Nightmare Before Christmas, but it is absolutely great.
