Every Tim Burton Film Ranked From Worst To Best
16. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children
Like Dark Shadows, this film is entirely inoffensive and has some decent moments scattered throughout, but ultimately slips under the radar as a pretty mundane studio cash grab for nostalgia. The movie clearly attempts to jump onto the superhero trend and does a decent job with some dark visuals, but in the end, it is utterly forgettable.
We follow the character of Jacob - portrayed by Asa Butterfield - as he discovers a collection of clues that lead him to a strange place called Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Things soon grow dark and mysterious as he discovers the strange abilities of the children kept in this place.
The film is kept together with some good performances and outstanding costume design but is ultimately something that we have seen from Burton plenty of times. It does nothing to stand out amongst his excessive library and ends up merely being a pretty uninspired adaptation that lacks charm.
The source material is quite impressive, but it isn't too surprising that the film wasn't a huge success. It appears that a sequel won't be coming, and that isn't particularly shocking.
