Every Tom Cruise Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

23. Oblivion (2013)

Tom Cruise Interview With The Vampire
Universal Pictures

The main issue with Oblivion is its length. This is a typical 21st century blockbuster, which means that it's over two hours long when it could easily have been 100-minutes and done.

Even with this flaw, though, it shines thanks to its surprising plot twists, the excellent cinematography of Claudio Miranda, and Tom Cruise's compelling central role as an engineer left on Earth after a war who uncovers a series of devastating and life-altering truths about his reality.

Oblivion allows Cruise to show off his skills as an action hero, whilst giving him time to dig into the complexities of his character. As noted, it's overlong and briefly threatens to jump the shark once Morgan Freeman turns up, but Cruise and the visuals are enough to make it all worth it.
