Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Ralph Macchio and Matt Dillon all get in on the action, and work off one another to create a beautifully atmospheric and emotionally rewarding tale of teenage woes and class warfare.

Cruise's role is small compared to his more compelling co-stars (particularly Swayze), but he adds a strong dose of raw emotion to proceedings all the same. Like almost all his films from 1983, The Outsiders showed an actor already poised to run away from his peers.
