Every Twist In The Saw Franchise - Ranked From Worst To Best

1. Zepp Was A Pawn, Jigsaw Was In The Room The Entire Time (Saw)

Saw 3
Lionsgate

And finally, nothing else was ever going to take the #1 spot here, because there's just no outdoing the sheer WTF impact of Saw's original, franchise-making twist.

Saw of course originated many of the series' long-held tropes, most of all the climactic revealing montage set to Charlie Clouser's iconic track "Hello Zepp."

Though much of the film implies that Zep (Michael Emerson) is Jigsaw, after he's beaten to death by Adam (Leigh Whannell) it's revealed that he's simply another test subject who was trying to obtain an antidote for a poison coursing through his veins.

Moments later, the real Jigsaw presents himself - he's the "dead" guy who was laying in the bathroom between Adam and Dr. Gordon the entire time.

Oh, and he's some random, cancer-riddled patient of Dr. Gordon who is testing people that don't appreciate their own lives. Woah.

Jigsaw standing up and revealing himself to Adam is one of cinema's all-time great "holy s**t!" moments, and while it was in large part responsible for the film's unexpected success, it was also an ingenious high-point the series never had a hope in hell of topping.
