6. The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid is fondly remembered for helping usher in the Disney Renaissance, and with damn good reason. Visually stunning, charming as hell and boasting instantly iconic songs, it's no surprise that Disney is hoping to fast-track production.

Early word on the street suggests that Rob Marshall (Chicago, Mary Poppins Returns) will direct, and in addition to Alan Menken returning to write new songs, he'll be teaming with Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda (who will also serve as a producer).

Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass, Kingsman) will write the script, and rumours have pointed to the possibility of Zendaya playing Princess Ariel.

Marshall's a safe, solid pick to direct even if he's not exactly an adventurous choice, but between Miranda contributing to the music - something he criminally missed out on in Mary Poppins Returns - and the likely feminist trimmings of Goldman's script, this has heaps of potential.
