2. Thor: Ragnarok
Release Date: 3rd November, 2017
Status: First trailer out in the wild.
After the disappointment of Thor: The Dark World, there was probably a case for Marvel to simply stop using Thor as a stand-alone character and just call him back in for Avengers movies. But then they seemed to strike on a couple of great ideas.
First, they'd adapt Thor: Ragnarok (at least in a very soft way), then they'd hire Taika Waititi and allow him to adopt his signature style (meaning more comedy) and then they also decided to adapt in elements of Planet Hulk. That those decisions were supplemented with the casting of Cate Blanchett, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban and Jeff Goldblum was just the icing on an already very exciting cake.
From the first trailer, it appears we're getting a 70s and 80s sci-fi vibe, lots of Waititi's quirky humour and a portrayal of Thor that strips him of everything that makes him special. That's always a good approach for challenging characters, and you really cannot overstate how excellent that fight between Thor and the Hulk is going to be.
And if it all leads to a Hulk stand-alone then it deserves even more hype.
