The first season of What If...? was a fun but messy affair, taking an alternate look at the MCU and its most important moments.

Set to consist of nine episodes, the upcoming second chapter in The Watcher's story is poised to air in 2022, and shed new light on the franchise's expanding multiverse.

Given how it's a standalone series, though, the show's renewal has been somewhat overshadowed by the bigger movies and TV shows set to shake up the mainline MCU. It's sure to be intriguing speculative fun, but it'll have to do something special to make itself seen above the much more important instalments around it.
