Venom was divisive to say the least, but there's no denying how good Tom Hardy was in the lead as Eddie Brock and Venom. In actual fact, the rest of the film was mostly a disappointment without him and if he wasn't involved, we would have been treated to an outdated, dull retread with a distinct lack of focus and no idea what tone it was supposed to be.

It made enough money to make a sequel inevitable however, and the good news is that Tom Hardy is back, Woody Harrelson is likely to return as Carnage and it's being directed by Andy Serkis, whose experience with motion capture might be Sony's most valuable asset in the sequel's production.

Whether we'll see the long-speculated appearance of Spider-Man in there too remains to be seen, but you have to suspect it's going to happen sooner or later.
