Every Will Smith Movie Ranked Worst To Best

2. The Pursuit Of Happyness (2006)

King Richard
Sony Pictures

The fact that Will Smith is such a madly popular star makes his performance as embattled everyman Chris Gardner - a real-life homeless father who fought adversity to become a millionaire broker on Wall Street - all the more impressive.

Smith slips into the role with striking ease, making Gardner every bit as relatable, tragic, and empowering as the man himself. Working alongside his son Jaden as Chris Gardner Jr only makes Smith's performance that much deeper.

The best thing here, though, is that The Pursuit of Happyness doesn't feel like your standard teary-eyed, heartwarming biopic. Rather, it feels harrowingly real, with almost palpable stakes driving the story forward. It's a tough watch, but it - and Smith - will lift you up like few movies of its kind.

Aidan Whatman hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
