Will Smith's first movie casts him a film that doesn't quite know what to do with him, though he makes the most of his limited screentime as one of the movie's most tragic and memorable supporting players.
What Where the Day Takes You lacks in Smith's presence, it more than makes up for with its staggering ensemble of rising stars, including Sean Astin, Dermot Mulroney, Alyssa Milano, Ricki Lake and Lara Flynn Boyle.
The drama's take on teenage angst and loneliness undeniably feels quite dated now, but its cast keep it afloat all the same. It would've been far better had Smith been given more to do, mind.
