6. Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them (2016)
Five years after Harry Potter's adventures came to an end, fans were gifted with a long-awaited return to the world they fell in love with. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a strong (though not perfect) example of a spin-off that works both on its own, and as part of the world it hails from.
With its own dazzling style and compelling characters, the film builds on the wider world of the mainline series, digging into its day-to-day complexities whilst enriching much of what came before with terrific action and rich scenery.
That being said, it's not without its faults, the most egregious of which is the incorporation of dark wizard Grindelwald into an otherwise light and exhilarating tale of magical creatures and Eddie Redmayne's lovable protagonist Newt.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, as a whole, is a wonderful film perfect for fans yearning for more Wizarding World shenanigans that feel both fresh and familiar, though its many virtues are dampened by its need to infuse its story with some of Harry Potter's darkness.
