Of the 27 movies that make up the biggest cinematic franchise in the world, there is debate over which are the best. You could make a case for a fair amount to be labelled as top 5, but there is a lot more of a consensus when it comes to those at the bottom.

Unfortunately, two of these both arrived in 2013, making it one of the worst years in the MCU’s history. Phase Two began with the underwhelming and unbelievably divisive Iron Man 3. Robert Downey Jr. was already a comic book movie legend by this point, but even he couldn’t save the outing from the whole Trevor Slattery debacle.

Six months later, things got even worse as the MCU released Thor: The Dark World, thought by the majority of MCU fans to be the absolute low point in the franchise. Iron Man 3 may have been divisive, but at least it wasn’t outright hated.

While there were some highs to take from these movies, Loki’s performance in The Dark World being the most obvious, this still ranks quite easily as the worst year to actually feature any new content in the MCU’s history so far.
