Every Zack Snyder Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

1. Watchmen

While purist acolytes of Alan Moore's source material may take umbrage with some of the changes Snyder made to the graphic novel, his Watchmen is still the peerlessly ambitious high-point of his career.

Bringing the supposedly "unfilmable" comic to the big screen with eye-watering style and uncompromising darkness, Watchmen is far from the most accessible or easy-to-watch movie in Snyder's filmography, but it is his best.

Snyder take Moore's subversive superhero story and injects it with his steroidal-yet-artisanal visuals, aided by a strong ensemble cast - especially a pitch-perfect Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach.

It's no less bizarre more than a decade later that Warner Bros. spent $140 million on such a dizzyingly unwelcoming, uncommercial superhero film the year after both Iron Man and The Dark Knight changed the genre forever.

As indulgent and over-the-top as it might be, this is more than compensated for by its sheer boldness of vision and Synder's show-stopping ingenuity behind the camera.

Is it a definitive adaption? Absolutely not, but as the superb recent TV series also proved, Watchmen is clearly much better-suited to being reimagined than translated with slavish faithfulness.
