Every Zack Snyder Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
2. Dawn Of The Dead
Making your directorial debut with a remake of one of the most beloved genre films of all time - George A. Romero's iconic Dawn of the Dead - is nothing if not ballsy.
All the more so given that Snyder actually pulls it off, refusing to deliver a simple copy-paste retelling of Romero's film but reimagining the concept in a genuinely creative and exciting way, aided by a sharp, James Gunn-penned script.
The excesses that have defined Snyder's later movies are virtually nowhere to be seen here, as Dawn of the Dead is an admirably efficient, to-the-point zombie movie filled with a fun - if underdeveloped - cast of characters.
Sure, the decision to speed the zombies up is still divisive today, but overall this is a confident directorial debut and, most importantly, a white-knuckle thrill-ride that remixes the classic original without vandalising it.
