Every Zack Snyder Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
6. Army Of The Dead
Snyder's most recent movie sees him returning to the zombie genre for the first time since his feature debut, and though the idea of the director making a no-holds-barred, R-rated zombie flick for Netflix sounds like a no-brainer (sorry) on paper, the reality is a little more mixed.
Army of the Dead is certainly a fun movie to a point, packed with stylish, gory action and a killer ensemble cast, but it's also a victim of Snyder's own, unrestrained excess.
With a brutal runtime of 148 minutes, this is an infuriatingly undisciplined film packed to the gills with saggy subplots, particularly Ella Purnell's dead-weight daughter character.
Snyder, who serves as his own cinematographer for the first time, also insists upon a distractingly shallow depth-of-field for almost the entire movie, only underlining the overall artificial, blatantly-filmed-on-a-soundstage aesthetic.
It's funny and appealingly bloody, but does very little that audiences are actually likely to remember for long, which some might say makes it a perfect fit for at-home viewing.
