3. Robert De Niro Is Being Eyed For A Supporting Role

Despite no other cast members being formally announced other than Joaquin Phoenix, one name which keeps doing the rounds is Robert De Niro. Allegedly being courted for a major role, the veteran actor is potentially being eyed to play a gangster, perhaps the one responsible for dragging The Joker into a life of crime in the comics in the first place.

While the actor's star has waned somewhat (one can only survive starring in so many "Dirty Grandpas"), he still more than has the chops, and should be able to bounce off Phoenix perfectly. Likewise, the casting makes sense considering Martin Scorsese is potentially still on board as a producer, with the two being one of Hollywood's most prolific collaborative duos.

So while he wasn't announced in the official press release, it seems likely that he will be signing up for the movie at some point considering just how spot on the other rumours were.
